of rotating residency with United Future Organization, Hot Stepper
presents Raphael Sebbag.
Raphael Sebbag who was born in Morocco and grew up in Paris,
enjoyed the salubrious occupations of DJ, model, and TV reporter before
forming U.F.O. with Tadashi yabe and Toshio Matsuura. The boys have
just put their finishing touches on a new full length album. And currently
have contributed to the Soul Source Jacson 5 remix project with a
storming take on a previously J5 jam session entitled “Hum Along And
Dance” - absolutely brilliant.
United Future Organizations most recent full length “Bon Voyage”
has just been released domestically by Koch!
10 years ahead of the current Latin jazz dance flavour UFO was formed
in 1990 as a
production organization staging fashion, art and club promotions.
UFO’s pioneering music projects such as their debut album "United
Future Organization", the “Multidirection” compilation , “No Sound
Is Too Taboo”, the “Red Hot and Cool” album covering the track “Stolen
Moments” by Oliver Nelson and “3rd Perspective” are unparalleled exercises
in excruciatingly fine musical tailoring – “discouture”. On their
4th album "Bon Voyage", UFO have achieved a new phase in their musical
attitude. The track "Flying Saucer" ( written by James Moody) features
a brilliant performance by jazz vocalist and Grammy Prize winner Dee
Dee Bridgewater. Other artists featured on the album include essayist
and actor ( he has appeared in most of Akira Kurosawa's films after
"Kagemusha" ) Masayuki Yui, as well as U.F.O.'s own Raphael Sebbag.
U.F.O. continues to be active in a diverse range of projects including
designing the limited edition U.F.O. wristwatch from Casio, and special
U.F.O. model of the Pioneer portable CD player Loopmaster.- All three
members have compiled and produced compilation albums for an ongoing
Mercury Music Entertainment series. U.F.O.'s music has been used for
numerous TV commercials including those of D'Urban and Casio in Japan,
Ford Motors in Europe, and Absolut Vodka in Sweden. U.F.O. has also
been working on many remixes, such as for the computer game Sega Dreamcast
soft " Space Channel 5" and Incognito " Future remixes ".
Raphael will turn the Roxy Blu into an intense dance jam with a whole
new range of tracks to check out and get sweaty to including the latest
fly Japanese licks, the latest promo’s, UFO classics and an excursion
through various musical times and spaces. Holding it down for the
hometown will be Toronto’s seminal souljazz dons the Bump N’ Hustle
crew Paul E. Lopes, Mike Tull and Jason Palma...essential vibes!
